Questions
Why Canvas2D instead of an image-gen model?
Two reasons: (1) cost — image-gen models cost $0.01–0.04 per image, which we'd have to either rate-limit or charge for. Canvas is free and instant. (2) Brand fidelity — Canvas2D draws your exact palette, exact font, exact text. An image-gen model would interpret your brand and probably get the colors and typography wrong. For OG cards, you want exact, not creative.
What size is the output?
1200×630 pixels — the OpenGraph and Twitter (large card) recommended size. The PNG is rendered at native resolution; modern Canvas2D produces vector-quality text and crisp solid color blocks. File sizes are typically 30–80 KB depending on layout complexity.
Can I use Google Fonts other than Cormorant and Inter?
Yes. Type any Google Fonts family name in the headline / body fields and the page loads it via the Google Fonts CSS endpoint, then the Canvas re-renders. We default to Cormorant + Inter because they're a clean editorial pairing, but Manrope, Playfair, Inter Tight, IBM Plex, anything from fonts.google.com works.
Why no AI photo backgrounds?
We considered it — but every AI image background we tested looked vaguely like every other AI image background, and the cost runs $0.01–0.04 per call. The 4 layouts here are deliberately type-driven, palette-driven, and brand-driven. If you want a photo, drop your generated PNG into Figma/Photoshop and composite it onto your shot.
Is this really free?
Yes. No account, no credit card, no API call. The Canvas runs in your browser, the fonts load from Google's free CDN, the download is your browser saving the canvas to a PNG. We make money when you ship a Lokuma site — until then this is free, forever.
